Dear Parents,

Last night’s Prizegiving recognised the many pupils and their wide-ranging successes and talents. We have been blessed with a great cohort of pupils from Year Zero to Year Eight. Our pupils have been well served and taught by our entire staff team.

Staff:

May I thank Mrs Brigit Craig and Mrs Ray Tennant for their service to St Michael’s and, more especially to our Year One and Two classes.

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Ray Tennant was the successful applicant for the recently advertised Year Two position. Mrs Tennant will assume her duties next year.

CHESS REPORT

In the fourth term members of the chess club have sat their New Zealand Chess Federation badge tests with some pleasing results. Tyler Smith and Sebastian Gurobi-Hines both passed the level one (pawn) test with a distinction score, and Alexander Howie-Smith and Connor Lindsay scored pass marks in the same test. George Addis, Tyler Smith, Olivia Ong and Taylor Keys all secured pass marks in the level two (knight) test.

The Interhouse chess competition was also held in the fourth term. The contest was very tight between Averill and Perry. In the final result Perry won the competition with 5 team points to Averill's 4. However, Averill had scored 16 individual points to Perry's 13. Had Averill secured one more individual point it would have tipped the scales for them to draw or win an additional match, tie Perry on team points and take the competition on a count-back of individual points.

Both George Addis and Freddy Wilson had three wins from three matches in the competition. Well done to Perry and to those two players in particular. Hamish Kenworthy

Violin: Congratulations to Meg Byers who passed her Grade One exam with merit.
